Poppy Mood

Sometimes, I can't sleep.  Last night was one of those nights.  I finally got up and wandered into the room where I keep my paints and gazed at the messy painting I did last weekend of pink flowers, and I couldn't wait to pick up my brushes again.  I got a bit messy and splattery, but when I I was finished, I was ready to try sleeping again, which finally came to me about 3am.  This one is bright and cheerful, with its five shades of red in each flower!

Joyful Noise

I really cut loose with this one, they are very fanciful poppies!  I had fun doing this one, and going back and adding a deeper background, with the suggestion of more poppy buds and pods, then multicolored splatters all over.  This one just made me happy!

Pink Poppy

I started this one after i took the cold medicine!  It was supposed to be loose, alas, it went toward the tight side.  Maybe next time...

Blue Period

Been sick with a yucky cold for several days, but finally picked up a paint brush tonight to try to paint something loose.  This was my second attempt - the first looked like pink blobs.  This one is a little better.

My Turn

So many folks around me have been sick lately that some school systems are closing to try to stem the epidemic.  Our college started back last week and, you guessed it, the illness finally found me.  I'm hoping it's just a cold, but I felt pretty miserable today and was glad it was a holiday, although I had planned to do so much today, starting with four or five paintings.  Well, I did get laundry done, and I rearranged and re-organized my tiny studio room, but the only brushes I picked up today were to move around from one place to another as I took down my four-legged plein-aire easel that takes up too much space, which I replaced it with a table and table-easel.  A bit more organizing, and I'll be ready to paint again.  And perhaps post a photo tomorrow rather than excuses.

#18/30 in 30 - Studio View

A tiny view from my studio window - the edge of the bay where we live part-time.  In truth, the blinds are usually down, as this view faces east, and the glare is too intense in the morning.  Sometimes, I look up and see this!

#11/30 in 30 - Study in White - Prance

A white pony - with lots of color!  At least that was the plan - I backed off in the end.  Not sure it's finished - I may go back and add some color and soften some edges!

#9/30 in 30 - Althea (2)

Nearing the finish line on this one, and it's the only thing I worked on this evening.  Trying to finish before the WSA show deadline!

#8/30 in 30 - Pony

'Twould seem that I'm a bit rusty with the ponies - perhaps I'll practice on a few more!

#7/30 in 30 - Frilly Hibiscus

This hibiscus was too frilly and too peachy, and, well, crazy.  I'm done.

#6/30 in 30 - Campus Camellia #2

Found some 5" x7" paper already cut and taped down, so I attempted this very frilly camellia that I photographed today.  The painting just comes nowhere close to the intensity of the deep watermelon pink-red!

#5/30 in 30 - Althea

It's not quite finished yet - but it's the only thing I worked on today, so it is today's entry.  It still has a way to go, but not tonight.  I like it better now than I did when I first started, but still doesn't feel as fresh as I wish it did.  Maybe I will experiment with it again after I finish this version!

#4/30 in 30 - Spring Cleaning ... Again

I decided on a challenge - I've been wanting to paint this one for a long time, but it took a good while, and I'm not really happy with it.  I think I'll leave it for a bit and see if something occurs to me...

#3/30 in 30 - Fine Arts Tower

The towers on our buildings at the college are purely decorative, but they add so much to the character of the campus!

#2/30 in 30 - Forgotten Homeplace

This old home is not near the shore, but was apparently called the "Boat House" for the original owners.  It was revealed recently when the surrounding land was clear cut.  It was certainly fascinating, but was falling in on itself and was then burned to the ground.
